MY DAD ALMOST STOPPED WALKING HIS DOG BECAUSE… HE COULDN’T PICK UP THE POOP.

My dad is 71. He had back surgery in February.

The surgery went fine. Recovery went fine. In a couple of months he was walking laps around the block again.

But there was one part of the walk he couldn’t do anymore.

His dog Moose is an 36 kg chocolate Lab. He goes about twice a walk. Every time, Dad had to stop, pull out a thin plastic bag, squat down to the ground, and pick it up.

Before the surgery, that was gross.

After the surgery, it was impossible.

He stopped taking Moose past the driveway. Just the yard, nowhere he’d have to clean up in front of people.

…the same excuse appeared: “It’s just this once.”

I picked up most of the time, but skipped more than I should have. The old bag-over-hand method made cleanup harder, grosser, and more uncomfortable than it needed to be.

Bending Down is the Hard Part

⚠️ 30% of British adults experienced back pain in the last three months.
⚠️ 10 million British adults have arthritis. For 4.5 million of them, it limits their daily activities.
⚠️ 8.5 million British households own a dog.

That’s millions of people squatting down in wet grass, twice a day, every day, with a leash in one hand.

The Other Options Don’t Really Help

Long-handled scoopers exist. Dad had one. He never used it once because it’s 91 cm of plastic and nobody carries that around the block.

The bag holders that clip to the leash don’t really work either. Your hand still goes down there, and the only thing between your fingers and the poop is a bag so thin you can feel the shape of everything through it.

You’re close enough to smell it. Then you carry it in the same hand, still warm, for the rest of the walk. And if there’s a hole in the bag, you find out about it later (I know from experience…)

Even the scooper and rake sets require two hands. And that’s fine, until your 36 kg dog spots a squirrel.

You also need to stay on your knees with your face a 30 cm away from the mess, scraping it into a pan.

All these fix a single part of the problem without fixing the worst part of it.

I Tried and Tested HappyScooper

I was looking for anything that would let him clean up without bending down, because really, there had to be someone out there who had a solution for this.

It weighs 195 grams, about the same as an apple, and it folds in half! It even fits in my tote bag so it’s really easy to take it with you on a walk.

Dad Figured Out How to Use It Before I Even Finished Reading the Box

It arrived four days later, in green.

Setup, start to finish:

1. Unfold the handle and slide the lock until it clicks
2. Clip a waste bag over the jaws (or skip the bag entirely and rinse the bin out later)
3. Hold it over the poop, squeeze the trigger, release

Dad tried it in the backyard. He could use it with one hand, leash still looped around the other wrist.

In his words, “Well. That’s stupid simple.”

My Verdict: 10/10

Works with one hand, you don’t have to drop the leash

You never touch the waste in any phase of the… poop-scooping

Strong claw, grabs firmly, easy to squeeze

Serrated teeth, so it picks up off grass, gravel, dirt, mulch, and pavement (tested)

Built-in bin, you can use a bag or just rinse it out after

Folds from 45 cm to 23 cm, I measured it. Easily fits a tote or the glovebox

Just 6.8 oz / 195 g, light enough to carry on every walk without noticing

Non-slip handle, the grip is strong even in the rain or when wearing gloves

I Checked the Reviews, My Dad’s Experience Has Been the Same

⚠️ WARNING: HappyScooper Inventory is Running Low Nationwide

The best-selling 3-pack is £49.47 TOTAL – just £16.49 each, and that’s the one I’d point you to.

You keep one and give the others to your parents or your grandparents. If bending down is starting to bother you, it’s so much worse for them, and they’re the last people who’d go and buy something like this for themselves. Dad certainly wouldn’t have.

Each day’s stock usually sells out within hours, so don’t wait.

Note: HappyScooper is ONLY available on their official website. Beware of imitations – there are so many out there and people are reporting how poor the quality of those is!

As of July 14, 2026 – HappyScooper his selling fast thanks to strong reviews and word of mouth. To celebrate their first year in business, the company informed me they’re running a one-time discount of up to 75% for first-time buyers.
